During my winter break this year I traveled to Fort Worth, Texas to spend time with my mom. From there, I traveled southwest to my hometown, Artesia, New Mexico to visit my dad and my wife’s folks. I am having a great time, but is there any such think as a perfect trip?
First, in Fort Worth we planned on taking my boys to the mall in Arlington, Texas to ice skate. However, the ice rink was closed. We had also planned to climb the 48’ rock wall at Dick’s Sporting Goods. They were open, but they said that the employee in charge of the rock wall did not show up for work. (I think that he needs to hear some of my work ethics lectures.) Well, we did not get to do what we had intended, but we had a great time with my mom. My sister and her family met us there. It was good to see everyone.
Things were going great in Artesia--until my son locked the keys inside the car. Of course, this was on Christmas Eve in small Artesia with no one around. So one does what one can, which resulted in sticks and coat hangers to get into my car. I have unlocked cars many times for other people, but I was not having any luck with my own car. Finally, after an hour of trying to get in, someone was kind enough to pull over and help me out. He was having trouble too, but was able to get in. Yahoo! Getting your car open is a good feeling when you’ve been locked out, especially out-of town.
In-spite of these minor incidents, we’re having a great time. We got to visit with family and friends, which is always fun. However, it’s about time to head back to Kansas and start planning for the new year.
Maybe there is no such thing as a perfect trip, but I think we came close to it. I expect the 2009 school year to be close to perfect as well.
To kick the year off, we will have a booth at the Darryl Starbird car show in Wichita coming up in January 2009. We will be posting additional information about this event, so check back often.
Leave us a comment telling us about your trip, break, or locked-out story.
