class notes for painting a car




  1. Wash the vehicle



  2. Take necessary parts off the vehicle



  3. Featheredge scratches with 220 -1/4" each layer as deep as the scratch is



  4. Final sand entire panel with 500 grit with interface pad



  5. Blow everything off with compressed air



  6. Wax and grease remove surface



  7. Clean jams and moldings 4 mask prep


  8. Tack rag everything



  9. If the area you fetheredge has a bare metal area smaller than a fifty cent piece use etching primer if larger use two coats of epoxy primer



  10. Two coats of primer surfacer



  11. Befor you sand let surface dry



  12. Put your guide coat on block with 320



  13. Sand guide coat and look for lows, use scuff pad to clean block sander



  14. If u think you are going to have to re-prime use 220



  15. Go over it with 500 DA after 320 if everything looks good



  16. Clean with soapy water clow it off with air blow yourself off so dirt doesnt come of you



  17. Wipe with wax and grease remover. put into booth and mask off



  18. Less folds in your paper better job



  19. Spray withprimer sealer if needed wait flash time usually 15 minutes one coat will be fine



  20. Tack befor pain



  21. Apply base coat. two coats is usually alright depends on the color let flash clearcoat
